Tiverton’s “pay as you throw” trash pickup program, whereby residents will pay the town for the bags that they use for garbage disposal, is not yet in effect, but in January, the Town Council voted to have the solicitor put together the necessary legal language. It took courage for the council to pass this, since it will be unpopular. Saving money, instead of bonds, is fiscal prudence , and what I am looking for in town Government. Pay a little now or a lot latter is the appropriate catch phrase.
